Celebrating the Life, Legacy and Values of Nelson Mandela
On July 18th, Mandela turned 95 years old and we celebrated his life, legacy and values at our Mandela Day event in DC while people celebrated him around the world. On Mandela Day, TransAfrica launched a major campaign to honor Mandela using the theme Mandela Matters.
Fondly known as "Madiba" to so many, Mandela has made an indelible mark on the world and we are celebrating his actions and his indomitable spirit. His leadership, his extraordinary humanitarian contributions and the model of his life - his struggle and dedication - are unparalleled. TransAfrica is proud to be coordinating events, creating a clearinghouse of information, and planning a national teach in this fall to celebrate the life, legacy and values of Nelson Mandela, and we hope that you will join us!
On July 18th, Mandela Day, TransAfrica partnered with the South African Embassy and the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists to throw a fantastic birthday party for Nelson Mandela's 95th birthday. In South Africa and around the world, people spent 67 minutes doing service to honor and commemorate the 67 years that Mandela has spent in service to his vision of change. We are excited to share an overview of the evening with you and photos from the celebration at the Metropolitan A.M.E. Church in Washington, DC on July 18th.
TransAfrica has started an online dialogue about the legacy of Nelson Mandela called Mandela Matters where we invite you to share your thoughts, reflections and inspiration from this great leader.
The Mandela Matters Campaign is a place where you can share your perspective and read the thoughts of others in the global community. The hashtag (#MandelaMatters) acts as an aggregator of people's comments across several social media platforms, so check it out on Facebook and Twitter.
TransAfrica supported local groups in more than a dozen cities around the United States that held events celebrating the life, legacy and values of Nelson Mandela.
