BRIDGING THE DISCONNECT & OUR "I AM TRANSAFRICAN" PROJECT

TransAfrica bridges the disconnect between African Americans and Africans on the continent, in Latin America and the Caribbean.

We believe that building an informed community through education and authentic relationships will lead to creativespace and substantive dialogue that can spur global change. The connections between people of African descent form a powerful political movement that will overturn systems of oppression and greed. The shared heritage of the African and TransAfrican people can translate into our unity today.

One of the most destructive tools of the transatlantic slave trade was the forced separation of enslaved people from others who spoke their language or shared their community culture. The method not only prevented a fear conspiracy to amass an uprising but began a 400 year old tradition of divide and conquer that has proven to be devastating to building a cohesive African world.

I am TransAfrican is our multi-generational movement to erase the disconnect between African descendants on the continent, Latin American, Caribbean, Europe and North America. I am TransAfrican is the declaration that Black people from around the world have common history and culture and common enemies. I am TransAfrican is the declaration that we stand together in the celebration and the struggle.

We can all stand with African people for by doing so we stand for the illumination of the wealth of culture and art delivered to the world by Africa’s children and we stand against racism, poverty and despair inflicted by governments and corporations.
