ARTHUR R. ASHE, JR. FOREIGN POLICY LIBRARY

The Arthur R. Ashe, Jr. Foreign Policy Library is the only library of its kind and is dedicated to educating Americans on issues related to Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. Named for our late board member, the Ashe Library is an important resource for policy analysts; congressional staffers; researchers; scholars; college, graduate, and doctoral students; journalists and media specialists; historians; attorneys; business professionals; and the general public.

The Ashe Library currently houses over 6,000 volumes including books, periodicals, serials, government documents, news clippings, audio and video cassettes, photographs, academic theses, maps, internal and on-line databases, and special collections (rare books). Emphasis is placed on acquiring works of scholars and other authors of African descent from around the world. Titles in the collection are often unavailable at other local institutions, keeping the library’s materials in demand.

In addition, the Library sponsors several ongoing events in the Washington, DC metropolitan area to disseminate information on issues of concern to the AfricanWorld. These include our African World Visions Film Series, Viewpoint Lecture Series, Readers’ Corner and Writers’ Corner.

The Ashe Library is temporarily in storage as TransAfrica moves to their new location. Please contact Mwiza Munthali at mmunthali@transafricaforum.org for more information.
