Africa Now January 7, 2015 African World, Cultural Production, and the Media

Topic and Guest: African World, Cultural Production, and the Media with Professor Derrick Lanois, Department of African American Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University.

The African world has a peculiar relationship with media…I say peculiar for a number of reasons.  But one of the primary reasons is located in the fact that some of the oldest uses and well developed examples of media are found in the African world.  Issues related to the African worlds’ relationship with media are well documented and studied…yet; with each step forward it seems two steps are taken back.  Today, we will look at a program that explored the African World, Cultural Production, and the Media previously recorded.
